Weekly Update, March 19, 2017

posted Mar 19, 2017, 7:55 PM by Joseph Sanches

This week is Spring Break, a time for you to enjoy this warm weather with your families. We will resume school on March 27th

Just a reminder that the quarter ends on March 31st. We will have a Teacher Workday on that day, with Parent-Teacher Conferences on April 3rd

State testing begins April 4th for 3rd through 8th grade students. We have a new incentive for all students. If they earn 95% daily attendance collectively for the month of April, we will have no uniforms for the remainder of the school year. We need everyone to help us out, including parents and guardians, to make this happen. Right now, we are running at 88% daily attendance so let's encourage our students to get to school everyday and on time!

Boys and girls track begins on March 27th. Please make sure all physicals and other paperwork are updated with Ms. Nava.

Have a great week off, everyone. We will see you next week!

The official season starts Monday, March 27th. All paperwork must be turned in prior to this date. Please see or call Ms. Nava if you have questions.

Please keep trying to sell our fundraiser items. All money and orders must be turned into the office onMarch 15th. All proceeds will help fund student activities. Also, the Junior Achievement Coin Drive runs through the month of March. Please send us your loose change to help continue the J.A. programs at Heroes Academy.

MS Parents and Guardians: MS Progress Reports were sent home with students on Friday. Please ask your students for theirs.

I am so proud to announce that our school was 1st place in the ReNew Our Schools Energy Saving Competition sponsored by Black Hills Energy and the Center for ReSource Conservation. Through our families’ support by returning home energy pledges, the students and staff conserving energy at school, our janitors doing some of their work in the dark, and all of the other energy actions completed by our students, including an energy audit, school video, and poster contest, we earned our school $18,000 for energy saving projects. We will be working with the Center for ReSource Conservation to identify the energy saving measures that will take place at Heroes. We would like to thank the leadership of our 8th grade science teacher, Ms. Sandoval, and our J-ROTC program cadets for serving as our Electric Energy Team!

Weekly Update, February 26, 2017

We have heard lots of rumors that, because of our accountability status with the state, Heroes will be closing next year.  Please know that this is far from the truth, families.  We have many great things going on at Heroes, and one of them is improved academics.  We are currently working to reform our school’s culture and academic progress, and we will be sharing our plan with the State Board of Education in late April.    Heroes Academy will NOT be closing, so please do not worry.

Here are the events for the week:

Mon, Feb 27

*Girls basketball playoff game at Heroes VS Liberty Point International Middle School-- JV plays at 4:30and Varsity plays at 5:30Students need to be picked up at 6:15.

Tues, Feb 28

*MYLIFE students field trip to UCCS.  Students must be at the northside K-Mart at 7:45AM and picked up at the northside K-Mart at 2:30 p.m.  Students will need to wear their MYLIFE t-shirts and should dress accordingly (pants, tennis shoes and jackets).  A group picture will be taken on campus so students should wear their MYLIFE t-shirts!  A small breakfast will be provided on the bus ride up and lunch will be provided at UCCS.

Please make note of upcoming events on the school calendar.  Spring Break is March 20-24.  Classes will resume on March 27th.  Then, there is a slight change on the calendar:  There will be a Teacher Workday (no students) on Friday, March 31st, and Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place onApril 3rd from 9:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Parents, we need your help with attendance.  Our goal is 93% daily attendance for the year, but we are averaging only 88% daily attendance right now.  Students are missing too many days of school, which hurts their educational progress. As soon as students meet 95% attendance, hopefully by April, we will no longer wear uniforms for the remainder of the school year.  We need your help, parents, to make this happen.  Please ensure your child’s regular attendance at school.

Clearing for Boys and Girls Track will begin March 6th and run through March 17th. Any boy or girl interested in track must come to the office and pick up a clearing packet. Clearing paper work can also be found on our school website under athletics.  Students need to have an up-to-date physical and have all the parent paperwork complete in order to be cleared to participate. The cost is $45 per student, but scholarships are available. The official season starts Monday, March 27th. Please see or call Ms. Nava if you have questions.

Just a reminder that school rules and consequences apply to school athletic events at all District 60 and 70 locations. If students have disciplinary action taken against them during an athletic event, they will be banned from attending and participating in all athletic events for the remainder of the school year.

Mid Week Update, January 24, 2017

posted Jan 24, 2017, 12:22 PM by HeroesK8 Academy   [ updated Jan 24, 2017, 12:24 PM ]

Good afternoon, Heroes Families!  Report cards were sent home with students today.  Please ask your child to show you his or her report card.

We are in the process of verifying student contact information.  If you have changes to phone numbers, addresses or other contact information, you will need to come to school and update your child’s enrollment card.  This helps us stay connected with our Heroes families.

Please remember, 8th grade parents:  We will be hosting a pizza dinner for all 8th grade students and their parents tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan 25th at 6:00 p.m.  Representatives from Upward Bound, Talent Search, Centennial High School and Central High School will be here to help students determine steps they can take to be successful in high school.  We will also share the plans for 8th grade graduation.  Please join us, 8th grade families!

In honor of our energy efficiency competition, we will be sharing energy saving tips with our families periodically.  Here is your tip for today:  A water faucet that leaks one drop per second can add up to 165 gallons a month to your bill.  That’s more than one person typically uses in two weeks!  Make sure all water faucets are turned off and operating correctly!
