Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms, grandmas, aunties, and others who are raising children right now!  


We would like to thank everyone who came out to our Spring Carnival.  I think this was one of the best yet.  Thank you to our only PTO volunteers, Vicki Lopez and Marie Tutterow, for your tireless effort and attitude to bring the carnival and fundraisers to us every year.  If you would like to help plan next year’s carnival, please call our office at 549-7410.

We will be meeting with middle school students in the auditorium at 8:15 to talk about troubling behaviors we are seeing from some of them.  Parents and Guardians:  Please talk to your children about behaviors appropriate for school.

The spring carnival will be held on Friday, May 12th from 5:00-8:00 p.m.  Tickets will go on sale starting tomorrow in the main office.  This week they are on sale at a cost of 5 for $1.00.  Prices increase the night of the carnival to 4 for $1.00.   We also need donations of 2-liter Pepsi products and store-bought baked goods for the games.  All of those may be brought to the office beginning tomorrow


We are hosting a Career Fair for our 4th -8th grade students on Wednesday May 10th from 8 am-12 noon. There will be approximately 30 careers represented in the gym in a fair-like fashion. We are looking for additional careers to be represented and would love to have you volunteer.

 

If you are interested in talking to students about your career, training and/or education in the field, please contact Hope Reilly at 549-7419.

 

The National Association of Letter Carriers will have a box for their Stamp Out Hunger canned food drive at our school this week. Please donate non-perishable food to be distributed to local homeless shelters.

*Pueblo Children’s Chorale will be visiting Heroes Academy at 2:30.  All elementary girls are invited to wear dresses, and boys are invited to wear a suit and tie to school.  We will be teaching students proper etiquette for a concert, so they should look and act their very best on that day.

*MyLife students will be on a field trip.  Mr. Pacheco and Mrs. Reilly will provide more information to the students involved.

We are wrapping up our series of state testing and want to thank all the families who made sure their students were at school every day, all day. Students exhibited great effort, and we are sure their effort will be rewarded. We will be making up tests during the next few days for those who were absent.

Unfortunately, we did not meet our goal of 95% attendance for the month, as our average as of last Friday was only 89.39%. Students will, therefore, be required to wear uniforms for the remainder of the school year unless we have a spirit day.

We are excited to share that Heroes will remain open as a K-8 school! We will be appealing to the state Board of Education tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. to allow our school to move into the district’s innovation zone. You will hear more about this exciting venture at an upcoming parent meeting. Please look for the date to be announced soon. Thank you to our families and community for your support and encouragement as we fought for our school’s future!

Band students, please remember there is marching band practice after school every Monday andWednesday 3:45-5:30. Please bring a full water bottle and walking shoes!

We have begun our attendance incentive for the month of April.  If the entire student body reaches 95% attendance for the month of April, students will not be required to wear uniforms during May and June. During this past week, elementary students earned 93.1% attendance, while the middle school grades earned 89.96% attendance, for a cumulative average of 91.52% for the student body.  Fourth grade had an awesome 97.41% for last week.  We need your help to make sure our students get to school every day and on time.

Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 18th.  At 6:00 p.m. in our school auditorium, we will have our No Bully program trainer here to teach parents about the No Bully initiative that is taking place district wide and in our school.  We will also hold our School Accountability Meeting to inform our families about the current state of Heroes.  All families are encouraged to attend.

Parents, Guardians, and Community Members are invited to attend an informational meeting about the Superintendent’s proposed changes to Heroes Academy on Thursday, April 6th, at 6:00 p.m. in the Auditorium.  PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND THIS IMPORTANT MEETING


Our Attendance Incentive is to earn 95% attendance this month.  We were at 86% for the month of March, so we have to come together to get this done!  If students earn 95% attendance for the month of April, they will be able to go uniform-free in May and June.  Let’s get to 95%!

This is just a reminder that Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, April 3rd from 9:15 to 4:45.  Elementary grades will meet by appointment; middle school grade conferences are drop-in only.  We look forward to seeing all parents and guardians on April 3rd!

 

Also, 1st grade parents, please mark your calendars for the 1st grade field trip on April 5th to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.

This week is Spring Break, a time for you to enjoy this warm weather with your families. We will resume school on March 27th

Just a reminder that the quarter ends on March 31st. We will have a Teacher Workday on that day, with Parent-Teacher Conferences on April 3rd

State testing begins April 4th for 3rd through 8th grade students. We have a new incentive for all students. If they earn 95% daily attendance collectively for the month of April, we will have no uniforms for the remainder of the school year. We need everyone to help us out, including parents and guardians, to make this happen. Right now, we are running at 88% daily attendance so let's encourage our students to get to school everyday and on time!

Boys and girls track begins on March 27th. Please make sure all physicals and other paperwork are updated with Ms. Nava.
