Weekly Update 10/8/17

Good Evening Heroes Families,

This is Mrs. Shue with the Heroes Academy Weekly Update.   This week we will be focusing on what it means to be a HERO in our hallways.  Elementary students will review the expectations for walking in lines, keeping hands to ourselves and remembering proper volumes.  Middle school students will be reminded about their volume in the hallway, on the stairs, and in keeping their hands and feet to themselves, and other important aspects of being safe and acting safely at school.   In addition, middle school students will have special assemblies this week to address these concerns further.  We appreciate the support of all parents and guardians in supporting our school as we transition to new rules and expectations for our students.

Open gym for boys in 6th through 8th graders will start next week October 9 - October 13 from 3:45 - 5pm Monday through Thursday. Open gym is a great way to get some extra practice in before tryouts for boys basketball.  Boys Basketball tryouts will begin on October 18 and conclude on October 20.

There will be a special assembly for students in grades 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th on October 20th.  Students who are demonstrating good behavior in class, in the hallway, and at lunch and recess, will be eligible to attend.  We will be keeping track of those behaviors starting on Monday until October 19th.  We want as many elementary students to attend as possible!!

There will be a parent meeting on October 18, 2017 in the media center at 5 p.m.  This is a meeting in which parents can come and ask questions, meet with the principal and also get an update on what is happening at Heroes.  We hope to see parents there if possible.

Additionally, student teacher conferences will be held on November 9th.  There will be no school that day and students are encouraged to come with parents on conference day.  Elementary teachers will be sending out conference sign up sheets in the next week or so.  Please be on the lookout for this important information.

Have a wonderful week!!

Weekly Update 9/17/17

This Thursday, September 21st, Heroes Academy will have school pictures and also vision hearing screening. On that day, students may wear school uniforms or dress up for pictures.  A note has been sent home with your Heroes student for school pictures.

We also want to remind parents that the early pick up of students is an interruption to learning for both your child and the other students as well.  Early pick up of students does count as a school absence in the same way that a tardy will.  Parents and guardians are asked to make sure that early departures meet the criteria of an excused absence.  Also, please do not ask for students to leave early in the last 20 minutes of school.

Also, your child may not leave the school with anyone who is not on the enrollment card in the office.  Please make sure these are updated to reflect your intention.  We cannot update these cards by telephone.  They must be updated in person for your child’s safety.

All visitors to the school must sign in in the office and wear a visitor’s badge.  This includes anyone who walks on our track during school hours.  If you walk on our track during school, we are happy to sign you in at our reception desk.

Finally, in order to make our school as safe as possible, parents who are waiting for students to be dismissed should wait outside the building.  We are having difficulty getting our students through the main lobby of the school after school.

Thank you for your continued support.

Have a wonderful week!!

No school tomorrow in recognition of Labor Day.

The Heroes staff wants to extend a special thank you to everyone who came out for Open House on Wednesday night.  We experienced record-breaking numbers and we were thrilled to host so many wonderful families and students for the evening.

Please take a moment to view our web page.  You will find a new link that you can use throughout the year to nominate teachers, students, and staff to receive a Heroes Brag Tag.  This year we will be teaching students about the H.E.R.O. profile.    This acronym stands for Honor, (Work) Ethic, Resilience, and Open- Mindedness.  If you see a teacher or staff member showing one of these traits, please nominate them.  Students can use the link too.  We will be displaying Brag Tags for students and adults in our school in a way that is loud and proud right in our front entrance way!

Starting in the month of September, all students who have a 95% attendance rate will be given a free dress day on a designated day at the end of the month.   Also, each Friday is college T-Shirt Day.  School pictures will be taken on September 21st and students may wear school uniforms or dress up for pictures on that day.

Student drop off and pick up areas can always be a challenge for any school.  Parents are asked not to park in any staff parking lot and not to pick up students on the parking lot side of the building.  A new bus route will be utilizing the a route in the parking lot and cars that block bus from picking up students will be required to move.  The new route will begin on Wednesday, so if you have been meeting your child in the parking lot areas, please take the next day to arrange a new pick up place.

The Heroes staff wants to thank you for your support and attendance at Open House!! Together we are going to set the bar high and set many new records!

Have a wonderful week!!
